About Outdoor Master

OutdoorMaster is a California based outdoor gear company started by a bunch of outdoor enthusiasts. They recognized that to get functional gear that worked you had to pay premium brand prices. Discount bargain gear frequently fell apart and was a waste of money. They went on a mission to create great working gear at affordable prices. They started with ski goggles which have proven to be one of the best performing skiing goggles on the market. Since then they have made some excellent skateboarding gear and electric skateboards.

The OutdoorMaster helmet is the most popular skateboarding and bike helmets available on Amazon with over 13,000 good reviews. It is available in 3 sizes and 11 colors. Outdoor Master gave me this helmet to try out with their Booster Electric Skateboard. I picked out a size large black to use. It’s a basic skateboarding helmet that is well made and offers good protection. Outdoor Master provided the helmet but I’ll give you all the good and bad just like any piece of gear I bought on my own.

Price

The Outdoor Master Skateboarding and Cycling helmet retails for $33.99 on their website. You can get it for $28.90 with our discount code ERO15. It is available for $39.99 on Amazon as well.

Safety Certifications

The most important thing about any skate helmet is how well does it protect your head. Why wear a helmet if it doesn’t do anything for you. This helmet complies with US ASTM F1447-18 for recreational biking and roller skating. It has CPSC certified safety for bicyling as well. It does not have MIPS or have an available MIPS version.

Construction

This helmet has a reinforced ABS shell with EPS foam liner. The straps are riveted to the helmet shell for secure attachment. The helmet has a size adjuster for secure fit.

The helmet has a tough well made look. It will stand up to some abuse. It has a solid heavy duty feeling to it when holding it. It’s not going to fall apart after one hit to the ground or curb. As with any skateboard or bike helmet, you should replace it after any hard impact. You can’t see the condition of the EPS foam inner lining underneath the shell.

Ventilation

The helmet has 12 vents. I find it has plenty of air flow through it to keep my head cool and sweat free. The vents are big enough to allow air flow without being so big they make the helmet shell weak.

Fit and comfort

The helmet is offered in 3 different head sizes because proper helmet fit is important. Small, medium, and large. The small is for 18.1 to 20 inches. The medium is 20-22.8 inches. The large is 21.3 to 23.6 inches. They also sell a version for kids.

My head measures about 23.25 around inches using the measuring guide on Outdoor Master’s website. I got a size large helmet. The large size range runs from 21.3 to 23.6 inches. The helmet fits me and is snug around my head. I need at most 1 to 2 clicks on the size adjuster. I would say that sizing information is accurate. I don’t think it will fit a head much bigger than mine.

The helmet has some removable breathable foam pads inside to make it more comfortable. It includes extra removable foam pads so that you can customize the fit. The chin strap has a foam pad around it for extra comfort also.

The helmet has a snug secure fit. It doesn’t wobble around much on my head. The chin strap fits me with about an inch to spare. There is plenty is adjustable strap to fit any head which is good. I find it comfortable to wear for a few hours of riding.

Going for a ride

I have taken the helmet for a couple long rides now on both the Booster Skateboard and my bike. I find it feels good and secure. There is enough ventilation for heavy pedaling on my bike. I haven’t fallen while riding with it yet. With the CPSC and ASTM certifications it should provide good protection when it happens.
