Basic Specs

This cooler bag has a capacity of 30L. It is approximately 22.75 x 17 x 6.5 inches in size. It has 2 mesh pockets. It has 1 large zipper pocket on the back. It can hold 18 bottles or 24 cans or anything else you want to put in it.

The iRocker Backpack Cooler runs $69.99 on their website. It is also available from Amazon for those who prefer shopping on Amazon.

The cooler appears to be made of rubberized vinyl material. It has a thick insulation layer between the inner and outer layers. It has a typical dry bag roll closure at the top. It can be closed by folding the ends together. It also has 2 sets of buckles to close the top against the sides which gives it a little more room. It has a bungee cord on the front for attaching other gear.

Backpack straps

The backpack straps are nicely padded. They have a large D-Ring on each strap. There is a chest strap and waist strap as well.

The front zipper pocket has a water resistant zipper so it will keep items dry. It is not a water tight or waterproof pocket.

Paddle board attachments

This cooler doesn’t have any specific attachments to use to attach it to a paddleboard. It is too big to go under the front or rear bungees on any of my boards when it is full. You will need a couple extra bungees to hook it down to the D-rings on a paddleboard.

How well does it work as a dry bag?

You can fit quite a bit of stuff into this bag. It works like a normal dry bag where you fold the top fold three times and fold the ends and buckle them together.

It is possible to roll the top over 3 times. There is just barely enough material above the backpack straps to do it. A couple more inches of material here would have made closing this bag a lot easier.

You can roll the top down 3 times and then buckle the corners to the sides of the bag instead of to each other. I haven’t been able to prove it’s not water tight in this configuration. I don’t think it will have a water tight seal and the top seam isn’t folded against itself the way it is if you buckle the corners together.

How well does it work as a cooler?

You can fit 24 cans or 18 bottles inside this bag when using it as a cooler. If you are using ice packs or something else that doesn’t melt into water, it is okay to close the bag using the side latches. You don’t have to worry about water dripping everywhere. If you are using ice to keep your drinks cold, you should close the bag like a dry bag. Buckle the ends together to make it water tight.

iRocker claims this bag will keep ice cold for 12 to 72 hours. This depends on how warm it is and how much direct sunlight is hitting the cooler. The cooler is made from bright reflective material so it won’t turn into an oven sitting in the sun. The insulation seems to work pretty well. We tried putting a couple six packs into it with some ice packs. It kept them cold all day.

One concern we had was how comfortable would it be to wear as a backpack when full of cold drinks. It works really well. There is enough insulation and padding that it won’t freeze your back when wearing it full of ice in just a T-Shirt. On a really hot day, it will help cool you down a little but not be uncomfortable. You can feel a little chill through it but not so much it feels like your wearing an ice pack on your back.

Uses for the iRocker Back Pack Cooler

This backpack cooler is good for my uses beyond paddleboarding. It would work great for camping and hiking in general. It is easy and comfortable to carry around when full. It’s a lot easier to carry than a 30 liter hard sided cooler. It is also the perfect companion to take boating whether as a cooler or dry bag for your gear. Use it to carry your gear to your boat. Use it to run out and buy drinks for the boat.
