The OutdoorMaster Booster is their latest electric skateboard offering. OutdoorMaster is known for making good functional outdoor gear at reasonable prices. The Booster board brings the longest range of any under $1000 electric skateboard.

The Booster boasts a range of 27 miles on a charge. The lithium battery is 42 volt with 12,500 mah cells. Most other boards in this range use 4000mah or 7500mah cells. In real life usage, this board will go much farther than any other board.

The board has a 7 ply maple deck which has mid range flex. It isn’t a super rigid board but isn’t super flexy either. It has a nice comfortable feeling concave shaped deck with grippy deck tape.

The ride is smooth but a little bumpy due to the rear wheel hub motors and thin rubber. The 450 watt hub motors are large. The board feels nice and stable the whole way up to it’s 24mph max speed. The controls are easy to use with smooth acceleration and braking. The remote has a nice LED display showing anything you would want to know.

The board has a 330 lb weight limit and 30 degree hill climb angle. The large capacity batteries can keep it going even with heavy riders on hills.

The OutdoorMaster Booster is a great value with long range, good top speed, and a smooth ride. It is great for heavier or beginner riders or commuters who want a lot of range.

max4 pro being ridden

The Maxfind Max4 Pro is a decent board with decent specs. It is a big step up in both performance and quality from past Max 4 boards which had the reputation of feeling cheap and toy like. The Max 4 changes that with solid construction, high quality trucks, the lastest Hobbywing ESC and a swappable battery.

The board has a top speed of 25mph and a range of 12miles which are okay. The battery can be quickly swapped giving you an additional 12 miles. The board can be purchased with up to 2 additional batteries giving you 36 miles total range. The battery uses genuine Samsung 4400mah cells instead of generic cells. The battery is 36 volt. The battery and ESC are in a single enclosure on one side of the board. The board has no built in handle. You have to remember to pick it up by the battery side of the deck. It’s not really balanced well.

Most riders were able to get around 8 miles out of it in mixed riding with hills and high speeds. Like most boards, the advertised range is only achievable if you take it easy on flat smooth ground. Most people were about to get to the top seed of 25mph on flat ground with reasonable weight riders.

The trucks are forged and CNC machined which is a nice touch given the price point of the board. We usually don’t see this on boards under $1000. The board comes standard with 96mm wheels. It can be ordered with optional 105mm wheels which give it 10% more top speed and a smoother ride.

It has a standard remote with an LED screen. The board uses the latest Hobbywing ESC giving it very smooth acceleration and braking control. This means it has very smooth and reliable braking and acceleration. The remove shows battery remaining, speed, distance, and mode.

The deck is 8 ply maple with a little give in it and a layer of carbon fiber on the bottom. The deck is on the stiffer side with very little flex. It’s more suitable for riders who do not prefer a really soft flexy deck. The 96mm wheels do an okay job of absorbing cracks and imperfections in the pavement. The optional 105mm wheels give it a bit smoother ride.

The Maxfind Max4 Pro has good performance with an innovative swappable battery so you can go the extra miles for your commute.

  • Top Speed – 25mph
  • Range – 12 miles (can extend to 36 miles with optional quick swap batteries)
  • Weight – 16.5 lbs
  • Max grade – 30%
  • Max rider weight – 220 lbs
  • Size – 38 inches x 10.6 inches
  • Wheel size – 96mm (100mm optional)
  • Deck material – 8 ply maple
  • Motor type – hub motor
  • Motor power – 1500 watts = 750 watts * 2
  • Battery capacity – 36volt 4400 mah
  • Charge time – 2 hours with fast charger

What we liked

  • Swappable battery giving you extended range without a really heavy board
  • The board has a rigid firm deck for people who prefer a stiffer board feel
  • It has the latest HobbyWing ESC and controls for smooth acceleration and braking

What we didn’t like

  • The board is a bit awkward to carry without a handle slot and all the batteries and electronics on one side
  • The acceleration and braking are good but not as strong as you would expect from 750 watt motors.

The Hiboy S22 is a great value coming in at under $400. For that price you get dual 350 watt hub motors with decent top speed and range. What it lacks is smoother ride and longer range.

The board has a 7 ply maple deck that feels very stiff. It has very little flex while riding. This combined with the thin rubber in the motor wheels means you can feel every bump and crack in the ground. The board doesn’t have much concave shape but it has really grippy deck tape making you feel secure.

The top speed is 18.6mph. People have been able to get it to go over 20mph. The ride quality isn’t there to make it enjoyable to ride at higher speeds. If top speed is your thing you might want to look for a longer, heavier, more stable board.

The board weighs 15.6 lbs making it pretty easy to carry after you get where you are going. The 12.5 mile range makes it pretty good for commuting short distances.

The remote controller works well and has a finger hole making it easy to grip even if you are wearing gloves.

The Hiboy electric skateboard is a good value for someone looking for an under $400 board who doesn’t want a cheap single motor setup. It is an excellent affordable electric skateboard.

  • Top Speed – 18.6mph
  • Range – 12.5 miles
  • Weight – 15.6 lbs
  • Max grade – 20%
  • Max rider weight – 220 lbs
  • Size – 35 inches x 9.4 inches
  • Wheel size – 90mm
  • Deck material – 7 ply maple
  • Motor type – hub motors
  • Motor power – 700 watts = 2 * 350 watts
  • Battery capacity – 36volt 4000 mah
  • Charge time – 3 hours

What we liked

  • Good price
  • Has 2 motors on an under $400 board
  • Respectable top speed and range

What we didn’t like

  • Overly rigid feeling deck
  • Ride is very bumpy feeling at speed

4 – MEEPO Shuffle V4 Classic Electric Skateboard

Meepo v4 product image
  • MEEPO V4 Electric Skateboard is the new classic electric skateboard with a top speed of 29mph and 11 miles range.
  • Perfect Deck Concave – The new V4 deck is concave down so it could help you make easy turns and provide better stability at high speed.
  • It supports 8A fast charging with only 30min to charge from 0%-100%
  • New ESC with sensitive control system can provide riders with smooth braking. The waterproof performance is up to IP6X.
Meepo v4 being ridden

The MEEPO V4 is the lastest offering from MEEPO. Earlier MEEPO boars have a reputation for raw feeling fast acceleration and braking. This board veers away and delivers a much more refined smooth ride. The top speed is still 29mph like the MEEPO V3.

This board is a completely new platform from the V3 board. It has all new motors, electronics, and chassis. The wheels and trucks are wider giving it more stability. The ESC has much smoother acceleration with more progressive curves. It does not have the very aggressive brake and acceleration of the Pro mode from the V3.

The ride is much smoother. The deck has more flex with a more concave shape. The wider trucks make it feel really smooth now compared to previous boards. The lowest level braking and acceleration would make this a good beginner board.

One thing missing is a handle in the deck. This is a fairly heavy board at over 17 lbs. A handle cut into the deck would have been really nice for carrying it around.

This board has fast charging capability. It can go from 0 to 100% charge in 30 minutes with an 8 amp charger. Unfortunately, the 8amp charger is not included with the board. You have to buy it separately.

The range of the board is 11 miles. Depending on how aggressive you ride, it goes down from there. There is a V4 ER available with an extended range of 20 miles for those who want more.

The MEEPO V4 represents a pretty big improvement over the V3. It keeps the high top speed but gives a much smoother, easier to control ride. It costs more but is well worth the increase if you can swing it.

  • Top Speed – 29mph
  • Range – 11 miles
  • Weight – 17.1 lbs
  • Max grade – 30%
  • Max rider weight – 300 lbs
  • Size – 36 inches x 9 inches
  • Wheel size – 90 X 62MM
  • Deck material – 8 ply maple and 1 layer fiberglass
  • Motor type – Hub motors
  • Motor power – = 1240 watts = 620 watts * 2
  • Battery capacity – 144WH
  • Charge time – 30 minute fast charging

What we liked

  • Much smoother ride than the Meepo V3
  • Very high top speed at 29mph
  • Smooth acceleration and breaking

What we didn’t like

  • The fast charger isn’t included
  • No carry handle in the board

5 – SKATEBOLT Tornado II Electric Skateboard

skatebolt tornado 2 product image
  • Upgraded Tornado II – With upgraded 7500 mAh battery, Skatebolt Electric Longboard keeps cruising up to 21-24 miles in medium mode. With dual motors, its running speed goes up to 26 mph and it’s strong enough to climb a 25% steep hill.
  • Durable and Stable – This longboard is made with 8 layers of northeast maple which make it sturdier to support a weight up to 280 lbs.
  • Taillights for Safety – The powered skateboard is equipped with 2 red warning taillights.

The SKATEBOLT Tornado II is a good all around board that does everything well. It is smooth and fast with good range. It is one of the more expensive boards in this review but a great value compared to boards costing much more.

The range is specified at 24 miles. Riders are able to get over 20 miles by keeping speed under control. This is a good deal better than most other boards out there under $500. The top speed is 26mph making it a fast board too.

The deck is made of 8 ply maple making it on the stiff side. The underside of the board is almost completely covered by the battery and ESC enclosure. The board has to be stiff to work with that arrangement. The deck is concave enough to give it a good feeling of control.

The wheels are 90mm with wide trucks and wide wheels making it a very stable and solid feeling board. It almost never speed wobbles and feels good all the way up to its top speed. The extra weight of the steel trucks combined with heavy deck and wide stance make it a very smooth feeling skateboard.

One unique feature of the board is the head and tail lights. This makes it great for riding at night on the street. It has red brake lights that turn on as your braking.

SKATEBOLT has a US based service center in LA making it much easier to have the board repaired.

This is a great overall board with a good mixture of high top speed, long range, and smooth ride. It is a little pricy but it doesn’t leave you wishing for anything.

  • Top Speed – 26 mph
  • Range – 24 miles
  • Weight – 19 lbs
  • Max grade – 25% grade
  • Max rider weight – 280 lbs
  • Size – 38inch x 9.4inch
  • Wheel size – 90mm
  • Deck material – 8 ply northeast maple
  • Motor type – hub motor
  • Motor power – 1000 watts – 2 * 500 watts
  • Battery capacity – 42v 7500 mah
  • Charge time – 4 hours

What we liked

  • Very smooth ride
  • Great top speed and range
  • US based service center

What we didn’t like

  • The deck is a little too stiff. It has very little flex when riding
  • High cost

6 – Teamgee H20 39″ Electric Skateboard with Remote

  • Speed and Range – The H20 longboards skateboards reach a maximum speed of 24mph and climb at a 30-degree angle with 30 kilometers battery range
  • Adjustable Speed Wireless Remote Control – The 4 speed mode and 4 brake mode can meet different needs of your ride
  • Powerful 1200W Hub Motor – 1200W hub motors can give you access to lightning-fast acceleration and a top speed of 26 Mph/42Kph
  • Sturdy Deck – 8 ply Canadian maple + 1 ply fiberglass deck offers riders a super stable platform at higher speeds, with just the right amount of flex to soak up the bumps

The Teamgee H20 39″ Electric Skateboard has great top speed and power with decent range. The board comes with 600 watt hub motors giving it 1200 total watts of power. This is more than most boards around the $500 price point.

One of the best features of this board is the W-shaped drop down deck. It gives you a really comfortable in control feel. The W contour really aligns with the shape of your feet making you feel connected to the board.

The 26mph top speed is great without being stupidly fast. The board feels very controllable right up to it’s max speed without ever feeling wobbly. The 90mm wheels feel pretty smooth on most road surfaces.

The board specs an 18.6 mile top range. Most users are lucky if they can get to 15miles. You might be able to get 18.6 with a lightweight rider on flat or downhill roads with a tailwind. 15 miles is still better than many other boards that have sub 10 mile ranges.

A few riders found that the battery degraded quickly after a few months. Replacements weren’t that easy to get.

Overall the Teamgee H20 has good speed combined with a great feeling deck. It’s more than competitive against other $500 electric skateboards.

  • Top Speed – 26mph
  • Range – 18.6miles
  • Weight – 21 lbs
  • Max grade – 30 degrees
  • Max rider weight – 286 lbs
  • Size – 39inch x 9iinch
  • Wheel size – 90mm x 54mm PU wheels
  • Deck material – 8 ply Canadian maple + 1 ply fibreglass
  • Motor type – Hub motor
  • Motor power – 1200 watts = 2 * 600 watts
  • Battery capacity – 36 volt 7500 mah
  • Charge time – 4 hours

What we liked

  • W-shaped deck is really comfortable with a great feeling of control
  • Wide wheels give the board a really solid stable feel
  • High speed performance

What we didn’t like

  • Spec range is difficult to achieve.
  • Questionable durability for the batteries

maxfind ff belt being ridden

The Maxfind FF-Belt is great performing electric skateboard. It has a really smooth ride, innovative composite tub deck, and lots of top speed and range. It is a bit over our $500 price point but it is absolutely worth the stretch to buy it over a less expensive e-skateboard.

The board uses 2 1500 watt belt drives for power. Belt drives give much better torque and braking than hub motors. The belt drive allows for regular tires to be used on the drive wheels. Hub motors need thinned out wheels to fit the motors. This often results in a harsh ride. Belt drives need a little more care and maintenance because there are more moving parts.

This board has a composite deck that has a molded in tub for the electronics and batteries. The batteries are not hanging below the deck where they can get damaged by water and dirt. No worry about screws coming loose and shaking the battery loose. Like the Max4 Pro, the battery can be quickly swapped out to give you even more range.

The battery is a 48 volt with 8700 mah Samsung cells. This gives you a stated range of 25 miles. It can be doubled with a second battery up to 50 miles. The battery is accessed from a hatch on top of board. You don’t need to flip the board over to swap it out. Most riders can get around 17-20 miles riding it at high speeds and with hills.

The latest Hobbywing ESC is used for control. This gives very smooth acceleration and braking. The board has no problem keeping up with a Meepo V4 in acceleration and top speed. The top speed is rated at 28mph and it can be achieved on flat ground by most riders.

The ride is extremely smooth and comfortable. This is due to the flexy composite deck and 105mm wheels. This board is targeted at a rider who wants a nice easy going comfortable ride to commute long distances but still wants to have fun and go fast too. It’s not targeted as an ultra high performance thrill machine.

The Maxfind FF-Belt is one of the smoothest riding boards you can get. It has long range which can get even longer with an extra battery. It is well worth the extra cost to step up to this board.

  • Top Speed – 28mph
  • Range – 25 miles (can extend to 50 miles with optional quick swap batteries)
  • Weight – 31 lbs
  • Max grade – 35%
  • Max rider weight – 220 lbs
  • Size – 41 inches x 12 inches
  • Wheel size – 96mm (100mm optional)
  • Deck material – Super Flex PPS + Glass Fiber
  • Motor type – Belt drive
  • Motor power – 8700 watts = 1500 watts * 2
  • Battery capacity – 48volt 8700 mah
  • Charge time – 3 hours with fast charger

What we liked

  • Ultra smooth and comfortable ride
  • Swappable batteries that can be swapped without flipping the board over
  • Composite deck that is flexible for a comfort and allows battery to be above the deck

What we didn’t like

  • High cost

8 – Blitzart 38″ Hurricane Electric Longboard

Best Under $300 Electric Skateboard

  • Range and Speed – A max speed of up to 19MPH and a range of 6-10 miles
  • Wireless Remote – Easy to hold wireless remote that controls acceleration and deceleration with reverse capability
  • Maple Wood + Bamboo Deck – The 7-ply maple wood deck sandwiched between 2 layers of bamboo on the top and bottom of the board giving it more flexibility and sturdiness.
  • 350W Brushless Hub Motor – Hub motors are more reliable and less problematic. Hub motors are much quieter than belt-driven motors. More importantly, the hub motor’s board can be ridden like a regular board without battery.

The Blitzcart Hurricane is a great budget electric skateboard. It doesn’t have the range, top speed, or power of the more expensive boards. It does alright in all of those categories.

It has a single 350 watt hub in one wheel. It still manages a respectable top speed of 19mph. It lists range as 6-10miles. Most users find it gets closer to 6 miles. The range and top speed both decrease quickly with heavier riders. The max rider weight is specified as 250 lbs. If you want to get 19mph top speed and 6 miles of range you need to be closer to 200 lbs or less.

The construction and parts of the board are good. The deck is made of 7 ply Maple in a bamboo sandwich giving it a good flexible feel. Wheels are 90mm.

The controller is simple and easy to use without any display. It has a forward and brake/reverse toggle to control speed and braking. It has a few other switches to control settings such as max speed.

It has pretty qood ride quality. It doesn’t have a noticeable speed wobble that many single motor boards suffer from.

Overall this is a good board for someone who wants a good value and doesn’t need high top speed and long range. It is the best cheap electric skateboard out there.

  • Top Speed – 19mph
  • Range – 6-10 miles
  • Weight – 13 lbs
  • Max grade –
  • Max rider weight – 250 lb
  • Size – 38inch x 10inch

  • Motor type – hub motor
  • Motor power – 350 watt
  • Battery capacity – 36 volt 4000mah
  • Charge time – 3 hours

What we liked

  • Good value for the price
  • Respectable 19mph top speed
  • Easy to use with decent ride quality

What we didn’t like

  • Range is a bit short
  • Performance drops off quick for over 200 lbs riders

9 – Meepo V3 Electric Skateboard with Remote

  • More Powerful, More Speed – Upgraded V3 version get you from 0 to 19 mph (30 kph) in 4.5 sec with a top speed of 28mph
  • Latest ESC v 6.5 – Featuring complete sealed electronics making the board water-resistant, as well as moisture & dustproof with smooth and predictable brakes
  • Skateboard Deck – 38 inches made of seven layers of Canadian Maple that make for a ride with natural flexibility but also stable and durable.
  • Range – The standard battery has a range of 11 miles / 18KM , Our V3 board can take a 30% grade hill with a rider up to 300lbs

The Meepo V3 is the hotrod of the under $500 electric skateboards. It has a top speed of 28mph with strong acceleration and braking. It still manages a respectable 11 mile range.

This board is clearly oriented towards performance and not comfort. The first thing you will notice when riding it after how fast it accelerates is the ride quality. 540 watt hub motors are big leaving a very thin rubber layer for the tire. This means there is little to no shock absorption from the rear wheels.

The deck on this board is made from 8 layers of Canadian maple and has plenty of stiffness. The board has very little curvature to it. It’s almost a flat deck. You won’t have the locked in feeling that you will get with boards that have more shape.

It has Shredder Truck at the front and rear end which have a better feel than standard generic trucks. It feels a bit more carvy because of this.

The controller has several acceleration and braking modes. The Pro Mode is the fastest acceleration and fastest braking. Most riders feel that the Pro braking mode is a bit too aggressive. Given the high top speed good braking power is needed on this board.

Overall the Meepo V3 is very performance oriented. If you want an affordable board with a lot of kick and don’t mind a rough ride, this is the board for you.

  • Top Speed – 28mph
  • Range – 11 miles
  • Weight – 17.2 lbs
  • Max grade – 30% Grade
  • Max rider weight – 300lbs
  • Size – 38inches x 9 inches
  • Wheel size – 90mm
  • Deck material – 8 ply Canadian Maple
  • Motor type – Hub motor
  • Motor power – 1080 watts = 2 * 540 watts
  • Battery capacity – 144 wh
  • Charge time – 3 hours

What we liked

  • Hot acceleration, braking, and top speed
  • Carving feel of the shredder trucks
  • Easy to use remote and mode tunability

What we didn’t like

  • Thin Polyurethane on drive wheels can give an uncomfortable ride
  • Deck doesn’t have much concave shape to it

10 – Teamgee H5 37″ Electric Skateboard

  • Ultrathin – 0.59 inches thick, The thinnest E-skateboard; 3 inches off the ground provides stability and control.
  • 200 lb capacity – 37 inches longboard, 8. 7 inches wide, weighs 14. 5 pounds and can hold a maximum load of 200 pounds.
  • High speed – Powered by high-performance 380W x 2 motors giving it a 9~11 miles range with a top speed of 22 MPH.

The Teamgee H5 is a nice lightweight commuter board with okay range. It is one of the lightest electric skateboards out there at under 15lbs making it easy to carry around. You won’t have a lug a heavy board around when you get where you’re going.

This board is unique in that the battery is integrated into the deck. There is no battery or electronics enclosure attached under the deck. The deck is made of 10 ply maple and very stiff. If you want an electric skateboard that doesn’t look like an electric skateboard this is for you.

The top speed is a respectable 22mph. The range is 10 miles which is on the shorter side. The weight capacity is only 200 lbs. Heavier riders will reduce the range a lot and may flex the batteries too much. This board is not for heavier riders.

The ride quality feels pretty good. It is surprisingly smooth given the stiffness of the deck.

The remote is one of the few that is symmetrical and not shaped for a right hand. The speed control is in the middle so it can be used just as easily by lefthanded riders.

Overall the Teamgee H5 is a nice package for commuters, going short distances, who want an easy to carry board. If you are a heavy weight skater or need to go farther you should look for something else.

  • Top Speed – 22mph
  • Range – 10 miles
  • Weight – 14.6 lbs

There are many considerations when looking for an electric skateboard. Range, top speed, power, and deck construction are all important. Let’s discuss some of the most important things to look for when trying to find the ideal electric skateboard for you.

If the price wasn’t an issue everyone would ride $2000 skateboards. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have an unlimited budget for electric skateboarding. For $500 you can get a lot of value in an electric skateboard with good range and power.

Are you going to use your electric skateboard for commuting? If so range is a really important factor. You need a board that can go far enough to get where you need to go. Even if you are not commuting you still want enough range for all the activities you have planned and any trips you want to make. Having to walk or kick skate the board miles to get home on a dead battery isn’t that fun. The range of the board is determined by the battery capacity. Bigger capacity batteries will go farther.

Some boards have regenerative braking. This means that while braking the batteries get recharged. This can help increase the range of the electric board by recovering energy when braking.

Riding Experience

Different boards have a very different feel. Boards have stiff or more flexible decks. A flexible deck can make the ride smoother and give the board a better feel while carving. Some people prefer a skating board with a stiff feel over a flexy feel.

Acceleration and Braking

Boards like the MEEPO V3 have very aggressive acceleration and braking. Most other boards are more mild. If you want a long range commuter board you may not care that much how fast it accelerates. If you are just looking for a really fun ride you will care more about 0 to 15mph times than you will about range.

Top Speed

No one ever said going slow was more fun. There are limits. A stiff board with thin wheels can get bouncy and feel really out of control at high speeds. There is a limit to how fast a board can go and still feel in control with its given deck, truck, and tire combination. Most under $500 boards can go around 20-25mph. There are a few exceptions that can get close to 30mph.

Drive train and motor type

There are 2 main drive trains available for electric skateboards. Belt drives and hub motors. Hub motors are simpler and need less maintenance. They can go just as fast as belt drives. Belt drives have a small torque advantage where they can accelerate and break a little faster. The real advantage for the belt drives is ride quality. Belt drives do not need to build the motor into the rear wheel which causes the rear tire to be thinner. They can use regular thickness wheels which give a much smoother ride quality. Almost all boards under about $700 now are hub motors.

Portability and weight

High performance electric skateboards are not the lightest things in the world. If you need to carry your board any distance along with riding it, you need to pay attention to the weight. Some boards have handles cut into the deck. This makes them much easier to carry.

Deck construction

Skateboards will either have a stiff or flexible deck. It gives very different ride quality and feel to the boards. Most boards are made of plywood or plywood and fiberglass or carbon fiber mix. Wood has natural vibration damping qualities to it so it makes a good deck material. You may need to ride a few boards to learn what deck flex feels good for you.

Wheel type and size – Ride comfort

The bigger the wheel size is, the more comfortable the ride will be. The thicker the rubber is on the wheels, the more shock absorbing it is. Boards with larger hub motors on the rear wheels tend to have thinner tires that don’t absorb cracks or bumps in the pavement.

Travel limits due to battery size

If you want to travel on an airplane with your board you need to pay attention to the battery size. The TSA will allow batteries up to 100 watt hours to be taken as carryons. There are a few shorter range electric skateboards with batteries below this limit. Many have batteries in the 140-200wh range.

Service and Customer support

When you buy an electric skateboard you don’t plan on it breaking. Let’s be honest, stuff breaks and wears out. If you are spending $500 on an electric skateboard you don’t want it to turn into an expensive paperweight if something stops working. Most cheap boards sold direct from China can be very difficult to get serviced. Some companies have USA, Canadian or European service centers which can make getting something fixed much easier. It makes getting spare parts a lot easier also.

Electric skateboard FAQ

Q: What is the most reliable electric skateboard?

In the $500 price range, most popular brands all make reliable boards. OutdoorMaster, MEEPO, Skatebolt, and TeamGee all make a pretty good board. Batteries seem to be the biggest weakness. All manufacturers get batteries that fail a short time into their life from time to time. As long as the brand has good customer service they will take care of a bad battery and get you back on the road.

Q: How much is a decent electric skateboard?

$400 is about the lowest amount you can spend and still get a full featured dual motor electric skateboard. Below that amount, you don’t get dual motors, high top speeds, or decent range.

Q: What is the easiest electric skateboard to ride?

A good beginner electric skateboard will have a low top seed setting, mild acceleration and braking and good stability. The OutdoorMaster Booster and Skatebolt Tornadeo II both make really good starter boards. See this article from Cloud9 Grip Tape for some good learning to skateboard tips. It is a good idea to learn to ride a traditional skateboard before riding an electric skateboard. If something stops working you may need to stop without skateboard braking.

Q: How long do electric boards last?

A good electric skateboard can last for years. A lithium ion battery will last 300 to 1000 charge cycles before capacity drops below 80% of it’s initial value. With regular use, the battery in an electric skateboard should last 1 to 3 years. Brushless motors have no parts that wear out such as brushes so should last the life of the board. Tires will need to be replaced when they start looking worn and aren’t giving a smooth ride anymore.

Q: Do you need a helmet to ride an electric skateboard?

Helmets may or may not be required depending on where you live. It is a good idea to always wear one. We wear the Outdoor Master Skateboard and Cycling Helmet while riding electric skateboards. See our full review of the OM Helmet to learn more.

Q: Do electric skateboards have brakes?

Almost all electric skateboards use their drive motors for breaking. The braking force can be tuned for different rider preferences. They can have surprisingly strong brakes.

Q: Can I ride an electric skateboard on sidewalks?

It depends on where you live and what the local laws are. Look up the regulations for the town you want to ride in to see if electric skateboards are legal on sidewalks or not.
